The ring of the scroll wheel broke away from the hub. The 90 days is up in like 2 weeks. I used the web form on the support page on the digital networks na site on new year's eve and haven't gotten a reply yet. Should I try again? Is there a trick?

So I got a reply, but it refers to me in the third person. Very strange.

The fun thing's going to be finding the receipt. It's around somewhere but in the intervening time the area where I keep financial crap was disturbed when I had to cut holes in the floor to free a hamster who'd managed to find a way into the floor that couldn't be used to get back out.

"We will advise the customer that proof of purchase must be faxed for the RMA to be valid and that he will receive a reply email after we receive his proof of purchase. Recently, we streamlined the proof of purchase requirement for newer product but still require it for the older and legacy products. Those same older and legacy products still require proof
of purchase, however, we will want the Rio Agent making the defective determination to:Please be sure the customer is including his case number, name, phone number and email address when submitting the POP. Collect all necessary shipment and contact information.."

Why am I suddenly hearing echos of "A Habitrail Named Klein" in my head???

Basically I assume they gave you an RMA number. What you have to do is fax them your receipt, as they told you. Then whats SUPPOSED to happen is they are supposed to email you letting you know your RMA is active. For me and others, that never happened. I would go ahead and ship the unit after you fax your receipt instead of waiting for them to get back to you. I wasted a week like that.

At that time, you have to box up your player and send it to:

DNNA
2800 STORY ROAD
DOCK D
IRVING TX 75038-5267

Then you can sit around a wait a few weeks and they will send you a new unit (supposedly, Im still waiting).

Now, SUPPOSEDLY DNNA now has units to use for RMAs so maybe everyone else's process will be quicker than mine has been. My whole ordeal started a month ago on the 9th and I still dont have a new player.

Good luck

What you see is what I got. No number of any type. I assume someone else replied to the ticket and someone got confused

Well, I don't think we're that bad. We have 6 hamsters at the moment. The one who got into the floor has been the most adventurous recently but really all but 1 of the 6 are pretty active. The last is about 2 years old and was sick recently, but after treatment she seems to be recovering.

The floor adventure was basically:
I got up one morning and heard something strange as I went in the bathroom. So I walked over to the other bedroom. I noticed one hamster had escaped. I looked around. I noticed a hole where an electrical box had been that I'd covered by stacking something in front of it had been uncovered. I listened. I heard skittering in the floor. And so it began.

Heh, I didn't think they were supposed to live that long in the first place...

For one terrible moment I thought that that was the reply from Rio. In the Sonicblue days it would've been all too plausible...

My wife tells me she wasn't quite 2. Unfortunately she died overnight. I guess the antibiotics were too much for her.

Yeah. My wife called me to tell me as I was walking into my office. She was basically our 3rd generation. The first showed up while I was in Sweden in May of 2000.... and had many babies before I came home. The second generation were 2 we brought home in November 2001, both of whom passed on in 2003. We love them all, but sometimes their short lives can be very hard.

Well, I have had to migrate to wireless in my dining and living rooms - as they are the domain of two rabbits. Had a bunch of cables chewed up before I learned that lesson...

What is it about animals and cable chewing? You'd think the cables would taste bad to the animals or something. Do they think the cables have a hidden creamy nougat center?

Well, they clearly have a nice, chewy texture. And at least to rabbits, they look like roots - something you just have to chew on.

I have found that the rabbit brain is probably wired to divide the world into a few clear categories - "dangerous - run away", "edible - chew on it!" and "hmm... mate!"

They chew anything they can. I should take a picture of the habitrail module one of our hamsters chewed a hole in large enough to get out. There were plastic shavings below.

He'd been chewing it for a while and he seemed to enjoy it so we were loathe to take it from him.

I've seen this a couple of times recently. (On this board, I think.)

``Loathe'' is a verb: ``I loathe to go to the dentist.''

``Loath'' is an adjective: ``I am loath to go to the dentist.''

They're pronounced differently, too. (Not that I can tell whether you're mispronouncing it or not; I say this to be complete.) The `th' sound in ``loathe'' is like that at the beginning of ``this''. The `th' sound at the end of ``loath'' is like that at the beginning of ``thin''.

There is also something in the electrical insulation that is tasty.

You'd think that cable manufacturers would have wised to this long ago and started adding ingredients to make it taste bad.

Why would they do that when your cables get chewed up you have to buy new ones.

Someday secret documents will be uncovered showing cable manufacturers actually did research to make cables more attractive to animals.

I've heard that as well. You get a sweet taste when you chew on electrical insulation. I've never tried it myself so it could just an urban legend.

I replied to their reply. They have not answered. The problem is they're now using up my last week of warranty time. Very annoying.

That's what I'm afraid of. Had a partial power outage in the house last night. Earth protector breaker had triggered. And a loud chewing sond could be heard from the kitchen ceiling structure along the beams - seems the #$#$& rats have gotten in there somehow. Not good news - if those cables go, the whole ceiling has to be ripped apart. And the structure is non-trivial.

Hmmm, let's see, you have rats living in your ceiling...

...I think you have more problems than just worrying about the wires they are chewing.

Well... It will take them longer to chew through the beams...

They're not doing too well. They replied to my "fax where" with no new content and just the respondant's signature.
