Originally I posted my questions on the RioCar BBS but was directed here and answered a few of my questions just by reading the curent posts. Obviously the Rio Central doesn't yet "talk" to the car players but it will, that's good!

What I was really wondering though is if there were plans to make the Rio Central a DVD player in the future? I am really interested in an all-in-one player for my home that would save me space and keep headaches to a minimum (you know... multiple remotes, wiring, learning curve for the wife and kids, etc...). If the player could currently play DVD's I'd place my order today!

When the Central finally can "talk" with the car player, will I be able to synch my car player into my Rio Central? Without having to re-make playlist and re-burn mp3's? Basically, will I be able to create a mirror image of my car player?

Thanks for heading over here.

The disk drive tray in the Rio Central is a CD-RW, not a DVD drive. So there are no DVD capabilities. It's for music only, not movies.

Regarding car player synchronization...

They haven't developed the featureset for it yet, but they have hinted at "big plans". I one day hope to be able to get the PC completely out of the loop, and do as you suggest: An exact/automatic synch between the HSX and the car player.

Ok Tony, I know the player doesn't currently play DVD's, but do you know if there are plans for it?

Since the hardware doesn't have DVD capability at all, I don't see how there could be plans for it.

If it was done, it would have to be as a completely different future product. I don't know about possible future products.

Even for black-and-white films the screen could be a bit of a let-down...

I must admit I thought he meant DVD-A capability, to be honest....
