As an iTunes user and Rio Receiver owner, I was extremely frustrated by the fact that I could not easily export my playlists from iTunes to a format usable by my Rio Receiver.

I noticed there were some programs for OS X that help with this, but I did not find any for Windows.

So, I wrote a quick program for Windows that parses the iTunes Music Library XML file and exports the playlists as standard m3u playlist files.

Since this was useful to me, I thought I would release it and let everyone else use it. It is Free and Open Source, so there is no cost or anything.

Please let me know if you find it useful, and if you have any feature requests or issues.

You can download it from: http://www.ericdaugherty.com/dev/itunesexport

I don't use iTunes, but I think this is a really cool idea. I love seeing monolithic applications surreptitiously extended to be more open.

Nice. I also like iTunes and use it on both a Mac and PC. Another way to save playlists created in iTunes is to select a bunch of tracks in iTunes, and click drag them into WinAmp, which can save the playlist as m3u.

jcasey,
I use winamp for managing my collection, but find the naming convention for playlists frustrating:

see http://rioreceiver.comms.net/php/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=Technical&Number=4690&page=&view=&sb=&o=

Have you got a workaround?

Cheers

M

I don't use Winamp3 that much. I've just found it useful to convert iTunes playlists into a format that the Rio can handle. When doing this I have used the playlist window, and I can assign any filename I like with Save As... I haven't used the media library in Winamp.

Cheers

Does anyone have this mirrored somewhere? The people I am giving my receiver to use iTunes to manage their music on Windows, and this would be a very handy tool for them to have.
