Very simple...a display that can be read in daylight!!!!

With my top down it is I M P O S S I B L E to read anything on it..which makes the unit unsafe to operate(at the extreem) and frustrating (At the least)

I then have to switch over to my <gasp> Clarion, which has a readable display in any light, until the lights go out!

Talking about sacrifice...
I would suggest to switch your empeg to a shuffle mode before dropping your top, unless you also like to listen to a radio for which you can switch to your gasp-Clarion.

One of the solutions for this situation would be implementation of a voice command system with empeg replying command confirmations in voice as well. But, since <they> are all happy and excited about Auto-EQ feature, it'll be a while before voice system of any significant quality will become available.

It'll be long than a while for voice recognition. It's not planned at all for the moment.

I have the Clarion for the tuner and for the Sirius Sat radio....i also find the preset EQ curves and bass/treble controls much easier to deal with than the empeg equalizer...

Ed, are you using a green or smoke lens?

You should be able to read the display with the top down, unless something is wrong with the display or you're using one of the "bad for sunlight" lenses.

This may be a bit stupid but instead of voice recognition, why not voice announcement. Perhaps now with the capability of added memory this could be an idea to look into.

As with any file or playlist, tagging is in order but that would be cool if the player could tell you where you are at on the menu by playing back a pre-recorded voice file.

Talk to ynot aka Tony, if I remember correctly, he had made some progress on this.

I use amber, and in bright nearly direct sunlight it also is next to impossible to read. Not as bad as red, though.

Cheers

Try a smoke lens...it was the only one that was close to readable in mwest's convertable when we drove in it.

No wonder, then. Green and smoke are the best colors for sunlight.

This sounds like a repetition of the problem from the early Mk2's which had a defective power supply for the screen.

Alternatively, there is the issue of the dimmer setting - see the FAQ. I was annoyed to find that on my Laguna, the "lights On" sense line comes on when the ignition is turned on, NOT when the lights are turned on. Still something I need to sort out - perhaps you could check yours?

There's gotta be a wire in there somewhere you can tap. Find the line that powers the dash lights or something.

That might be difficult, a friend of mine's Citroen has the dash lights come on once the ignition is on regardless of the state of the headlights.

That said, my Clio (also a Renault) has an illumination wire that behaves correctly. You'd think a manufacturer who uses the same switchgear and electrical bits across many products would make sure they all behaved in the same way. Go figure....

Having (by coincidence) had a look at the schematics recently for this, it might be worth checking what the display HT voltage value is. You can check this between earth (the case) and the test point marked TP1 on the photo. Select a scale that can reach 60V DC.

If the voltage is low ( < 50V) then you will have a dimmer than normal display, hence why it might not be readable even at 100% intensity.
