Ah... I thought it was "Empeggers never die, they just get their Wendy flags set, and are filtered out."

OMG you guys are nuts I just got around to reading this post, and I can't agree more with Rob. I have been repairing electronics items for about 16 years and the worst thing I would hear from customers when I worked a electronics repair shop was "the tape was stuck in this vcr... but I got it out" then they would go on to say "but these things fell out too" and then I would say "oh... well lets see thats the guideposts and some of the drive gears... and this will cost you 3 times more than it would if you had stayed out of it". I would really love to take a stereo or cd player apart and find aluminum foil on the fuses:) Camcorders had to be the best when the customers would bring them in and say they got a stuck tape out then they would give me a bag of smd devices they scraped off the board in the process.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on the Video cable? The cable that runs from the motherboard to the video display? I fried one and ripped the other. I'd like to snag two if possible.

Wow. That's hard to do, given that one end is glued (or otherwise attached) onto the display module. I am sure it is a standard ribbon cable / connector, but I have never seen them available before. You might want to try either Eutronix or RobS.

Some of those will be being given away at the barbie, I think I have 10 or so. It's a custom part from Samtec - not really expensive, but custom nonetheless. You can make it up from the individual parts, but 2mm IDC stuff was hard to get hold of back then...

Thanks guys for the quick reply, but I am in New York and I don't think I'm going to the meet at the moment. If anyone has one they can sell or lend me now and we arrange something that would rock. I'd pay for shipping.

It's almost pavolvian how I have to remember the number of button presses to naviagate the heirarchy, but without screen so many functions are difficult to use or control. I don't want to buy another empeg just to canbalize a cable, (although having another empeg isn't a bad idea!) , So if anyone has a solution for me or a place to order one from let me know. I repaired the cable before by hand paintstakingly but this time it's burned and mushed really really good. I'm going to take a picture later today to show everyone in another thread what I'm down to

JB!

All of the parts for a DIY replacement (better than the original) are available from Digikey.

Just need a 20-pin (going from memory here) header, some 20-conductor ribbon cable, and two crimp-on 20-contact ribbon connectors. I've done this for three units so far.

Cheers

We have a few of the original display cables left. I prefer these to Mark's "better than original" ones from Digikey because using a header plus connector protrudes out more from the display board and also can be disconnected from the display, leaving open the possibility of the cable being misaligned on two ends instead of just one.

For anyone interested, our shipment of display cables will be going out on August 2nd and be available for sale on the website about week later.
