I'm finally getting around to replacing my grandfathers outdated Pentium 200 system, and wanted to preload some things I know he will use. One of his wants is to be able to play poker online against other players, but with no real bets. I'm having a hard time finding a program for him that is not infested with spyware, or that is an online casino. Anyone come across an online poker game that was decent? I'm imagining something similar to the multiplayer games included in XP. Sadly Zone.com lacks any multiplayer poker games.

http://games.yahoo.com/ might be worth a try. The games load as a Java applet.

Try Pokerstars. They of course have real money games, but they also have hundreds of play money game tables that have no charge to use, of all different kinds. I was playing real money games on there for a while, but after losing too much money I just play free games there now and love it. They even have play money tournaments, and some of them get you a free entry into an actual real money tournament. In theory you could win one of them, go into the pay tournaments, and if you keep winning you could go all the way to the World Series of Poker without paying a cent. Both Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer, the last two World Series of Poker champions, got there from winning smaller Pokerstars sattelite tournaments. I can't recommend it more highly.

FullTiltPoker.com has free games, as well. My company designed the artwork on the site, and were fortunate enough to have a few of the poker players in for a Q&A.
