I've been using my empeg to listen not only to my music collection, but also to Audiobooks.

The Audiobooks are ~45 minutes a tape side (it's a pain transfering them from cassette :) and resulting in really long files.

I would like to be able to abandon listening to a file (for example when I get to work) and listen to other files, and then when I head back home resume the file from where I was so I don't have to fast-forward through 30 minutes of mp3 :)

Just a request :)

The feature you're requesting is called "Bookmarking", and it will be there when 1.1 comes out (expected soon).

Interesting that the name of the feature is an industry-standard metaphor referring to a physical book, but has no relation to books since the empeg plays music. But you really do want the feature to mark your place in an electronic book. Sometimes irony is just too ironic.

Ooh... didn't realise the new bookmarking feature actually marked the place within a file. I just thought it marked the file so that when you go back to it it would start at the beginning. Interesting.

Even if it HAD begun, which it hasn't, I wouldn't be able to tell you 'cause I'd be under NDA (which I'm not yet).

Actually, I don't really know if it does or not, I haven't actually seen it in action. I'm just assuming it does because I know that, from a programming point of view, it's as simple to mark the place within the file as it is to mark just the file. Would seem a rather large waste if it didn't bookmark the place within the file.

Would the NDA require you to claim you are not under NDA?

Do we have any idea whether you can have multiple bookmarks, or is it just going to be one ?

For as far as I can remember from the 1.1 demo in Amersfoort, there is support for multiple bookmarks. With this feature you could encode a live concert as one MP3 file and put multiple bookmarks in it, one for every song starting-point. This way you won't have any gaps in live music.

It bookmarks the entire playlist, and your position (down to the second) within it. Great for doing a demo - save where you are, demo the empeg, then carry on where you left off even after showing off all the toys (searches, inserts, etc).

There are currently 4 bookmarks (ummm, might actually be 3+the current playlist, can't check atm).

Ideal for audio books too.

Now it would be really nice if it did this after a synch. Let us say I just uploaded songs to EMPEG, synched it. Right now it says End Of Playlist and my playlist starts over. It would be nice to have it mark where it is before it synchs, then have it resume from the same place when it starts playing. Sure, maybe the new songs will be skipped but it would be nice to have the automark feature.
