I have a windows xp platform running jreceiver 0.2.5. using rioboot. Currently I am using rioplay .29a2 instead of reza's client, because its faster and doesnt hang up as much.

Previously I had a linux server, and used trio - that machine crashed and burned, and due to work reasons, i can't go that route again. [i need the box this server is on to be a windows box.]

My only real issue atm with rioplay is that it plays tracks in alphabetical order (not track number) and that there is no random button. [all the other limitations i can live with.]

I do mis the receiver synch that trio had .. as i have 4 of these damn things [used to be great when we threw parties]

My questions are :

1) is there an alternate bootloader that I can use with rioboot that is fast, and will play tracks in the order they are reced from jrec

or

2) is there any docs for using trio 1.6 with my config ?

I noticed on the trio site that they say it doesn't work with rioboot atm. but there was some (very confusing looking) workaround .. is there a stepthrough, or does anyone have any experience with this ?

I thank you all in advance.

Why not use arm to boot the rios?

Before moving to linux/trio/jrec I had Windows/trio/arm, you'd just have Windows/trio/jrec/arm

tRio can be made to play with RioBoot. When you expand the receiver.arf file that comes with the riot-x.y.z package on a Windows machine you'll get a load of errors. These are down to symbolic-links which aren't supported on either FAT or NTFS. The work around is to make multiple copies of the actual files and name them with the symbolic names.

For example, in the bin directory there appears to be 76 files but in fact there are only 6 files (bash, busybox, lcd, ldd, nc & sh), and 70 symlinks; all of which point to busybox. So, in this directory you need to make 70 copies of busybox and name them: basename, cat, chgrp, chmod, chmod, ..., etc. Do this for each of the directories and voila! It's a bit of a kludge but I can assure you it works. I've got this going on both XP and Windows 2003.

Thats a pretty clever kludge
not being in front of the home computer atm .. how can i tell which is a file and whilch is a symlink ?

and is there a better program to expand tar? i used winrar with the arf that came with the rio .. and it went nuts when i tried to connect to it.

WinRAR seems to do the job perfectly except for one error (see below). I originally untar'ed receiver.arf on a linux box and WinSCP'ed the files back over.

Looking at it again, I see that there's a symlink ../tftpboot/default/dev/core that points to /proc/kcore (this is where the WinRAR error occurs). That's /proc off the Linux root not the proc directory under tftpboot which is empty. I made a copy of /proc/kcore as ../tftpboot/default/dev/core and it works fine but I was just wondering what riot is using this file for since it is 270MB?

I'd like to post a zip of riot for RioBoot users but having to include this file would make it too big.

Cheers
Dave

OK .. with the arf set as default in my reioboot/tf* dir
and with core put in /dev
I can start up trio
start up jreceiver and the nfs and portmapper software for rioboot

i can stream to winamp.

when i try to start my receiver .. i get looking fo server .. connectiong to server (the nfs goes nuts eventually rebooting with the following appearing in the nfs window.

im so close i can taste it.

Regarding the SSDP discovery of jreceiver error. Did you remember to install the jreceiver-rio-0.2.5 component? The install instructions are near the bottom of the JReceiver: Rio Install page and are easily missed.

yeah

turns out the arm/jrec/trio error was an ip conflict (somehow)
in my conf file for jrec i changed the references that were localhost:8080 to the actual ip of the box .. and that stopped the arm/jrec errors.

haven't had the courage to get back at rioboot :P but the day is still young

WinRAR seems to do the job perfectly except for one error (see below). I originally untar'ed receiver.arf on a linux box and WinSCP'ed the files back over.

I use gnu tar myself. It recreates the symlinks, though neither Windows nor Java understands them - at least they're easy to track down with "find" or whatever.

No, no, no...

/proc/kcore isn't really a file. It's a view of the ram on the current system. It only exists at runtime. Since I couldn't symlink to it, I just left /dev/core out. I haven't noticed a problem.

If there were a problem, it wouldn't be solved by copying a ram snapshot off a LInux box anyway.

As for all the busybox copies, I suspect riot doesn't use most of them either. Might be worth narrowing it down a bit to save space - all those copies do add up. I haven't bothered since it doesn't really hurt anything.

I'd like to post a zip of riot for RioBoot users but having to include this file would make it too big.

Problem solved?

I used to post these periodically but I've gotten lazy. I'm still running a post 1.5 beta myself - not something I should share. I'll post one if I ever catch up with the current release and there's still a need but if you have one handy you should definitely go for it.

Problem solved indeed. Thanks for the info on /proc/kcore. Us Linux newbies learn something new everyday. I will zip up a RioBoot version of tRio 1.6 and make it available.

Thanks
