I'm not up to date on the market at all, but some general questions:
Max measures?
Number of channels?
Power?
What do you intend to run off it?
Budget?

I'm looking for a sub, that's all. I already have the amp installed. I have a pioneer ts-w304c and a jbl gt4-12 which are too deep.

Looks like Earthquake has a new series, SWS, of very slim subs - 3" for the 12". No idea how they perform...

No specific recommendation, but here is a nice general one:

Go with a 10" subwoofer rather than a 12" or larger.

With a 10" sub, you can set the crossover at a reasonably high frequency (I cross mine over at 250 Hz) and get a rich, full tonality rather than the "blumph blumph blumph" of the larger subs. And, for your installation, the 10" subwoofer will be shallower than a 12", and of course will be less expensive too.

If you have the room, two 10" subwoofers in a common enclosure will give you acoustic coupling and allow frequencies as low as a 15" subwoofer, while still retaining the responsiveness and tonality of the 10's. The downside is that you won't get as many decibels as you would with a separate enclosure for each one.

Thanks for that Doug, good to know you got back from Amersfoort safely. I actually took the plunge and got a pair of the SWS6.5's via Rob R.

The install gallery is here

I missed this thread when you were asking, or I'd have suggested looking at JL Audio 6w0. I've been thinking about putting a couple in my golf.

SoHTaHF reviewed the SWS-10 subwoofer, with a few THD/SPL tests. It seems to not be a bad line if you're in a pinch for space.

Phase Linear aliante are slim, but expensive.

I have an Aliante 10" in both the Noble and the Golf. Very good, very slim, don't require much box volume to work well too (well, so it's claimed). I'm not the biggest bass fiend in the world, but it sounds good to me.

You do need a decent amp to drive them well though.

Check out the LAT from Tymphany...bizarre sub, but it works REALLY well and sounds good too. Look up "LAT tymphany" in google and it should be the first link. We have a couple that we have been playing with and it is really promising. Alpine also sells it in their new bandpass box.

Another alternative is the Peerless XLS 10 inch...we put them in to a box that is only 3.7" deep and it sounds great!

You could also go with the Elemental Designs EU700 6" sub...it beats hard, plays ungodly low, has 13mm of xmax each way, and is fast and transient. Not to mention it is only about $50 each. There is a guy with 15 of them in the floor of his matrix in the spare tire well and he competes with it.

Good luck!

I actually haven't got that car any more, and the subs are under the stairs now. But thanks for the info.

That must make for a pretty good house party.
