Maybe you've already seen this from last week, but here's an interesting link to read about SigmaTel's new portable player due out in Q4 2005...Sounds like some great features.

Wow!!! Great article!!! So, when will we see products based on this, and who will manufacture them? (Translated: When can I order it and from whom?) Congratulations are certainly due to the Cambridge crowd!!!

My favorite quote: (from Peter)

"We already have the entire Karma feature set, plus USB mass-storage and more, working on the STMP3600."

Additional: The press release from SigmaTel.

Additional: The product sheet.

That would have been my fault. The failed upgrade to 6.5.2 rolled back some data used to make up the front page by about 12 hours.

But the Cambridge team isn't supplying the software? Or are they, for the HDD players. I'm a bit confused by the article. Without empeg guys software, we're only half way there.

The chip (from what I understand) is packed as a complete solution. While there will likely be hardware sitting on top of it, the firmware, UI and feature set will be embedded in the chip.

If anyone is going to be at CES in January, I'll be able to show them a 3600 + empeg software demonstrator that looks remarkably like the unreleased 2005 Rio 1" product - same size as a Rio Carbon but with a colour OLED and all those natty Karma features - plus things like photo viewing & all that.

We put it together as a sales tool for the empeg sw-on-3600 platform, and it's really pretty slick

Hope you used good glue for the sticker that covers the Rio logo
