Moxi Media Center

This is what I have been waiting for. It serves music, movies, and TV. It is expandable via many different methods. And it will have cheep litle recievers for other TVs in the house. And lastly, it acts as a cable/dsl router.

A rundown of the inputs and outputs:
4 Satelite capable TV tuner inputs. (unknown specs for compatibility)
Firewire
USB
VGA
Optical (input? I think thats output)
Type II PCMCIA
Ethernet
802.11a (optional)

It runs their own version of Linux, and as long as it can deliver, it will be on my wish list later this year. With this, I'd be able to toss out my PC acting as a media server now, and keep the 27inch VGA monitor.

Looks like ReplayTV may have some competition.

Wow. Well, this tilts me toward the $9.95/month approach on the new Tivo!

I wonder if this will be smart enough to address external disk/RAID, say one of the newer firewire/IDE units (no idea if they're any good...) like these from Granite Digital?

I'm also curious to see what their revenue model is. One-time charge or some sort of Tivo-esque subscription?

Flash-based menu??

They even dare to mention pricing info in this article.

They mention in their website http://www.moxi.com/product.htm ... that you can add additional recording space with firewire drives ...

This sounds pretty freak-tacular ... I'm all over this thing when it comes out ... Pretty much exactly what I've been wanting to build for some time.

I tell you what though ... how do they plan on fitting all of that into $350/unit? They may end up offsetting this with some outrageous subscription fees.

Wait a minute!!! Hugo/Rob ... Why not build us something like this? The new media center of yours has to give you some good experience in this realm ... all you need now are video capture, bigger UI, dual satellite tuners, and you'll be ready to go! ;-)

That certainly is quite perty. I'll have to keep my eye on this.

Here is Microsoft's answer to that. I'm not convinced, though, that a PC-centric view is a good idea. I like the Moxi concept much better.

Oh sweet. This reminds me of when I first laid my eyes on the original Mark I Empeg. How cool it is.
