Apart from the standard vote for the stuff thats already
on the todo list - eq/DSP functions, Full RDS Features...

1) When using the units buttons to adjust the volume, once
you are in volume mode you can use the down button to switch
between volume,loudness,balance and fader

2) Pre set volume levels such as stationary, motorway, and "Parents
in Car" :-)

3) The option to switch between flat and hierarchial play lists modes

4) Test audio signals for setting things up.

Cheers

Paul (waiting with anticipation for Beta 6)

To go with Item 2
A preset level for Police Spotted... =)
and
5) "Preamp" Level for each mp3, so that you can equalise the volume a bit.

I used the normalise funtion in AudioCatalyst and this seems to have
done a pretty good job of patching the level. However a feature to
match levels between diffrent sources would be useful as I find the
radio to be quieter then mp3's.

Re. presets for different volume levels, how about (and this might be getting a bit silly, but possible nevertheless)....

- Attach a speed sensor to the serial port to give speed dependent volume.

- Attach a GPS receiver to the serial port, also giving speed dependent volume but this time it still works if you're on a trailer. :)

My Carin 440 does this, and it's *very* useful in a high road and wind noise car like the MR2 with the top off.

Taking this train of thought a little further, could the IR sensor be used to measure the ambient light somehow or is it too narrowband to notice daylight? If you can measure light levels even roughly then you could have daylight and darkness visual settings to avoid having to turn off the fancy but bright visuals at night when they're too distracting.

Cheers,

Mark.

I've always wanted to do this. It reminds me of the way some Ford radios work. The main menu is rather cluttered with all these options and they could all appear undere a single menu item. The only question is what to call it; "mixer" would seem to be the obvious choice but this may not be understood by non-techie types.

This is a good idea. I've put it on the wishlist.

3) The option to switch between flat and hierarchial play lists modes

Is the flat playlist mode really that useful if you have the hierarchical mode?

4) Test audio signals for setting things up.

This could be done as a set of mp3s in a special playlist.

My old Pioneer had these functions under A for Audio and the rest
under F for Function. However I would imagine most users of the
empeg would be reasonable technical (I'll save the cheap jokes
about Mac users for another day - hey you doing an empeg with
just one button on the front for them? ;-) )

I probably wouldn't - the menu is a bit 2D atm - you going
to add vertical scrolling to the menus for this?

This could be done as a set of mp3s in a special playlist

Thats a good idea - but it would be nice if it could play a test
zone - and then do it just front/real left/right etc - rather
than having to mess around with the balance/fader...

... and what about the storage of pre-set audio settings, which match how you like to play you music:

- classic
- vocal
- jazz
- rock

.. whereby you can preset all your settings (volume, treble, bass, fad, pan, graphic, info) into one group, give it a name, and then save it.

Just to make it really lush, you could then give each preset group an affinity to specific ID3 tags, so the "Jazz" preset will automatically get selected by the empeg when a track with a given ID3 category is played back!

Ooohhh, the posibilites are endless...

Rather like the Dolby Digital left-centre-right-rear right etc. film reel. It is actually quite fun to listen to.

Unfortunately we can only do left and right in an mp3. Doing front and rear would require software support.

Nice idea about using the ID3 tags to pull up some presets... dunno if it's possible but I like the idea...

We were intending for each track to have the capability of having its own settings but maybe creating a "group" and then letting each track specify which group it is in would be easier to control.

We'll have to think about this one.

No No No.... please, let us have control on a track by track basis. Better yet, give us both - a group setting, and an optional sub-group setting for individual tracks that would supercede the group setting if set. Of course, I say this secure in the knowledge that almost all of my music is classical, and I won't have nearly as many separate tracks to deal with as people who load their empegs up with lots of contemporary nois... pardon me, music.

Attach a speed sensor to the serial port to give speed dependent volume.

Definitely a good idea - a lot of cars these days have already got an electronic speed pulse generator fitted for cruise control, electronic speedo, engine management, ABS, etc. If anyone at Empeg needs any more info on this, drop me a mail or give me a call at work anytime and I'll try and give you a few pointers how to go about finding the right cable in various cars, etc.
