Dear Empeg,

I'm using the standard Beta 0.77.1 (beta 7b+) software with my Empeg ser#235,
and get the following report from Emplode every time I attempt to synchronize:

The synchronization process failed during stage 2 with error 0xfffffffc.

It now happens every time I connect to it with Emplode, which means I can't load
any more music. Please advise how I can get my Emplode loading again....

Music plays just fine, but the unit reboots after the failure. I assume I'll have to go in
via the serial port and perform some minor surgery? (I'm happy to do so, as a
RHCE.)

...upgrade to beta 8c - supposedly this fixes the sync errors.

Unfortunately, I upgraded to Beta 8C successfully, but it didn't cure it. I get exactly the same error message. I still can't Emplode my Empeg... :-(

OK, I connected to the serial port during the synchronization, and these are the error message:

hda4 is mounted.
/dev/hda4 contains a file system with errors, check forced.

hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=281100, sector=114780

end_request: I/O error, dev 03:04 (hda), sector 114780

rt read) while doing inode scan.

/dev/hda4: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)

I haven't dropped my Empeg, so it looks like the hard disk may be a little flakey as shipped. Any advice on how to fix? I'm willing to fsck it manually.

Flash the developer image, connect via serial, when the player comes up, press q then return to drop to a shell...
Then fsck it as you would any other linux box.. =)
Good luck... =)

I upgraded to 8c as it contained some fixes for my box not always finding the IDE HD (timeout probs).
I now occasionally get the sync failure errors.
However, my solution to sorting this is:
Drop to the shell in the developer version, unmount /drive0 & /drive1 (is present) and then run fsck.ext2 on them.
Restart the player and then get Emplode to syncronize again (usually watching on the TTY session to the box)
So far this has solved the problem every time it has occurred.
