So I'm listenin to St Germain (cranked), and there is this real cool "beep" in the beat of the song that I didn't recall being there listening before but it just matched so well...and then I noticed the dreaded overtemp alarm...Akkk thpt thpt thpt ....put it in the freezer? get out the dry ice? OhmygodtheEmpegisgonnafrywhatdoIdo???

"Luuuuke, search the forum, use the Force" a voice comes out of the ether and I find out that its OK everyyythnggg is fiiine calm down... whew... Or is it?? What does the experienced empeger set the alarm at and how do they do it? Is related to output volume? (Sun was shining on mine!!!).

You talking about the Hijack temp alarm?
If so just set it from the usual Hijack menu. 40C is fine though, mine has gone to over 50C before and I think others have even gone past that.

The normal operating temperatures are in the FAQ if you want to check them out.

Go into the Hijack menu and set it to 55C -- the operating limit for hard drives.

... and if it still goes off @ 55c (like mine did) you'll probably want to fit a fan. I recently had a good 3-1/2 hour drive (mostly in central London) on a very hot day and it didn't get above 42c. Luvvly Jubbly .

In reply to:

This must be some strange new meaning of the word "good" of which I was not previously aware...

hmmm... good point. Let me clarify: It was a good 3-1/2 hours in duration, not a good drive of 3-1/2 hours duration.

I live in Texas and it is routine to have 100deg days during July - Sept., how did you fit this fan?

I have my alarm set at 50 C, and it went off today with the a/c on full blast.

You'll find a thread about fitting a fan here.
and here.

I'm sure there are other threads but I can't find them right now.
