recurring no hard disk found

My riocar seems to be pretty finicky, it will display the no hard disk found error anywhere from once in 2 weeks to a month. Usually the error is fixed by using a .upgrade file, reverting to an older version of software and opening it up and just looking at connections. Ive replaced the ide cable and infact am now using the orginal cable. Im pretty perplexed as to what could be causing it, any ideas?
