error codes - 05/10/2002 18:26

I have been have some problems lately with emplode...most times while retrieving or writing the players configuration. does anybody know where i might find and explanation to the error codes..such as ox 80040015?

it seems as if the player freezes up during these times and any and all of the modifications i did were lost. many times i need to unplug the unit and start all over again.

i am using windows xp and running version 1.9 beta 11 on my riocar....

thanks

I did a quick search on the BBS for your error code and this has cropped up before. It's probably due to flakey USB support in XP, do a search on the error code you posted and you will see what I mean.

Look here in the FAQ:

The error code is E_DB_OPR_OPEN, which means "Failed to open database". It's usually caused by the player dropping the connection shortly after discovery.

As the others have said (and the FAQ says), Microsoft changed the USB layer in XP -- mostly they made it adhere to the spec more closely. This means that some drivers (including the car player) no longer work reliably with Windows XP.

Rest assured that we are looking at the problem -- it also (somewhat) affects the Rio Central, but that we have no firm estimate for a fix.

In the meantime, try using Ethernet instead. emplode itself is perfectly stable under Windows XP, so Ethernet should work just fine.

Roger,
I assume USB-Ethernet dongles would not be affected by the empeg USB driver issue? Assuming that the dongle driver is solid under XP of course. I don't have XP but I don't know that this is answered in the FAQ.

Correct, although that would be a sketchy assumption.

If you're going to go to the trouble of buying a USB-to-Ethernet converter dongle, why not just buy a proper ethernet card instead? Probably cheaper anyway. You will also get better performance and more reliability.

Perhaps you have a notebook w/o built in ethernet and don't want to spend the $$ on a PCMCIA card, or you already use your PCMCIA slots for something else. I'm just trying to explore what options exist for those with XP USB problems. That's all.

Re: error codes - 06/10/2002 09:07

actually i am using an ethernet port through my router on my network...i have always done it this way and it has worked fine since i got it earlier this year..however, now that my 10 gig has only 240mb free the whole process is tanking so much longer and these errors are much more frequent (almost every time i sync)

OK. Ethernet should be fine.

Are you running Hijack or any other extra software?

If so, can you install a stock release and see if it still fails.

If it fails with the stock release, can you get a serial trace from the player, and the corresponding trace file from emplode? If you can then send them to me ([email protected]), I'll see if there's anything obvious in there.

Also, you claim to be running version 1.9 on your player. I'm assuming that this is an off-by-one typo. Can you confirm exactly which version you're running, please?

Thanks.

Re: error codes - 06/10/2002 09:49

Oh, and, if I'm reading your typo correctly, you're using beta11. Please try upgrading both the player and emplode to beta13 before you try anything else.

Crap, didn't catch that earlier.

Ed, "error writing player configuration" was a known bug in beta11 that has been fixed in beta13. Please upgrade to beta13 if you have not already done so.
