Cast metal buttons and knobs

Cast metal buttons and knobs - 08/04/2003 12:18

There has been a lot of talk and experimentation regarding translucent buttons and knobs here on the board. Would anyone be interested in metal buttons? I was thinking about something like sterling silver. My mom does some jewelry casting. I would think this would not bee too hard to do.

Greetings!

Mmm.... Silver buttons! Unfortunately, they would need to be sealed, or they would tarnish. But still, that could be a neat effect.

I'm sure you can't do it, but I think stainless would be neat.

How about bronze? What other darker metals would be possible?

If you use it everyday would they get a chance to tarnish? My wedding ring is silver and it has not tarnished yet.

I do not know how difficult it would be to cast stainless but I could ask. I would guess that bronze would not be that hard.

If it were on an Empeg for my mom she would probably want some kind of gem stone inset in the buttons so she could use LEDs.

Oooh... Combine the sterling silver (or mabe a darker metal) with the pinhole-light idea.. That would be kinda nifty.

Me.

I would definitely want this. If she's willing to do it, lemme know. I'd be interested in doing something with small diamonds on the knob (have the stones already).

First of all ROFL. Secondly, is this a creative use for an old wedding ring or what ;-)

I'm just waiting for Saddam to place his order...solid gold with gemstone inlays. Probably a multiple order with a variety of gemstones to match cars and lenses; ruby, sapphire, emerald, yellow sapphire, diamond, etc.

I take it you saw the pictures of the taps in his palace then?

Just when I thought I had seen everything here. If I can get the buttons cast I am pretty sure you gould mount any kind of stone you wanted in it.

If it were me though, I would NEVER leave this combination in the car unsupervised.

No, just a parcel of tiny diamonds given to me. Not terribly valuable. Haven't lost my mind yet, never accepted a ring.

I've got a modified chanel bag as an empeg case (all the other alternatives are ugly), so diamond buttons isn't really much of a stretch after that. If she can do a copy of the fascia also, I'd want that too.

The empeg never sits in an unattended car. When it was stolen, it was in a bag on my arm. Nothing ever sits in my cabrio unattended that's more valuable to me than a plastic cigarette lighter. I tend to leave it open.

Heh... I can see it now... a faceplate and buttons worth more than the original cost of the Empeg.
