Ogg status in 2.0 final? - 10/04/2003 08:23

Rob said we'd probably have it by May... Is this it? Or do we have to wait for 3.0 or 2.1 beta?

v2.0final was basically to clean up some bugs and add a few small features here and there. Nothing major was added.
Going to have to wait for v3 I'm afraid

Doh. Well I'm ready to use it at any time. I have my 150+ CD collection ripped to FLAC and ready to be Ogged as soon as this is availible...

Is v3 when we get wav playback that works? I thought they were replacing the audio code in v2 to make it handle wavs properly, but if they did, it didn't work. I still get dropouts.

I've never tried wav files on my player, but I assume
what you are hearing is the inability of the player to
read the wavs at the necessary speed. Because
wav files are stored so inefficiently, your player has
to do much more disk I/O. Also the wav will probably
not fit into the cache, so your disks will need to spin
while you are playing.

They work. I've got some sound bytes and such that have played. Can't recall if the disk had to spin repeatedly for them.

I've never had problems with .wav files in my player. I have three different IASCA CDs in my player in .wav format; plus six technical CD's ("Golden Ears") that Paul Grzelak lent to me (I bet he's forgotten all about them by now!) also in .wav format, and they all play with no problems.

My player is a Mark-II (not II-A) with no third party software installed.

Mine is a the "A" variant with Hijack and of course digital out board and partially functional lighted buttons and knob. Anyway, I have always had the wav playback problem, even out of the box.
