Control 2 riocars w/ 1 PC ? - 28/08/2003 02:41

I'd like to open 2 emplode-sessions simultaneously, so that I can control 2 riocars from one PC at the same time.
Is there a way to run emplode more than once, to establish several connections ?

How about running an emplode and jemplode session on the same PC? (Didn't try it yet..)

That ought to work. There's nothing technically stopping you, just that we couldn't be sure you wouldn't try to connect twice to the same player -- each copy of emplode might have a different idea of what's in the database. So emplode prevents multiple copies running.

Each instance only connects to a single player because otherwise, people would want drag and drop between them, and emplode doesn't support that.

Roger,
Idle curiosity, but how is connecting to 1 empeg from 2 pc's at the same time handled?

Sequence number in the config file.

There is a sequence number that is kept by the player. The first emplode to connect would basically "lock out" changes from subsequent emplode sessions.

Edit: damn... too slow... gettin' old...

The Rio Central added some stuff to the protocol to handle multiple connections at the Central end -- it'll reject the second connection attempt.

The car player doesn't use it, IIRC.

basically "lock out" changes from subsequent emplode sessions

This is absolutely correct, but to clarify: what it does is reject the changes from the second session. You can still connect. It only complains when you hit the Synchronise button.
