a few newbie questions about ogg/FLAC support - 27/01/2004 16:47

Hi All, I'd like to ask a few questions about the ogg/FLAC capability of the empeg. From reading the faq, it seems that this feature is not available yet, as I see no version 3 software anywhere. Yet I see mention of it in the hijack change log. Exactly what is required to play ogg/FLAC, and if I need to d/l a beta 3.0 software, where can I do it?

Welcome to the board! You'll need a 3.00 version of the software to play Ogg (FLAC may not be in yet). There are a few 3.0 alphas floating around, just do a search for a thread in General called "Merry Christmas". I'd suggest waiting however. Word on the street is that a 3.00 beta is coming and that will have fewer bugs.

Yeah, if you're a newbie, I highly recommend staying away from the alphas. And even be wary of the betas until the experts have had time to pound on them for a while. The out of box experience is much better if you stick with 2.0 final and MP3s for a while.

v3 alpha 3 can play OGG/Flac but flac's are very slow to seek or just skip. You will ned to use Jemplode to sync the tunes to the Empeg.

I've been using emplode 2.1, USB, and v3a3 to sync & play oggs. While emplode will crash rather than complete the entire sync process it gets far enough to get everything on the player.
