empeg boom box - 01/02/2004 10:22

What is the best way in building a empeg boom box.The other day I bought a boom box with a dual cassette recorder and a cd player. I was thinking that I could just take the guts out of the dual tape deck and replace with the empeg. The other idea was to remove the board, hard drive sled and all of the other guts from the empeg and just squeeze it inside the boombox. The screen can be placed a little farther from the empeg board with a longer cable correct?

The only problem would be getting power from the transformer. Maybe it would run the empeg off of the d-cell batteries to make a great portable player.

I think it would go through batteries pretty fast.

To be honest, rather than retrofitting an empeg, you might be better off with a Karma.

Both Meatballman and mwest created that just before the Cincy meet 2 years ago. That was the only time it has been used and it hasn't been fully functional. Maybe Meatballman will jump in and tell exactly why but IIRC it was because they couldn't keep the voltage high enough to power the empeg continuously.

Meatballman is in possesion of it at the moment and I've been wanting to get it going for a while but we've never had the time to do it.

Maybe one of these days we'll finish it up. Hopefully before the Cincy meet this upcoming year so we can have it for tunes there.

I thought about doing this once but determined that power from the existing transformers may be an issue. If you want something portable with speakers it may be easier to incorporate a Karma into a boombox with a aux in. Just attach the Karma with velcro.
