Just to gauge the potential interest...carbonfibre

Just to gauge the potential interest...carbonfibre - 25/03/2004 03:58

I have this friend who can do carbon fibre stuff. He's had a look at the face on my 'peg and says with some slight alterations (the bars linking the buttons to the screen area are too thin and would need to be slightly thicker), he could make some up. He wants to borrow my face at some point and experiment with a mould.

I was gonna do this just for myself, but with the demise of NewFace, I thought I might see what kind of reaction and / or interest this post generated.

Don't expect anything to happen too quickly on this, but it's a definite probability

I have no idea of pricing or numbers yet (I know this is a bit vague, sorry), this is purely to see if there is interest...

You're talking about remaking the 303 faces? Or remaking stock faces?

Interested either way; as long as they are flat black with the original fascia plastic texture. That texture matches my car's trim texture SO well; looks stock! I wouldn't mind a NewFace all calmed down to black.

... but then we'd need colored lenses for them. Mmmmmmm dark green.

AFAIK, carbon fibre has a smooth finish, so the original texturing of the face would be lost.

I thought that it was clear from my post (probably not, my fault) that it would be the original faces that I would be trying to emulate. I only mention 303 because we now have one less source for modified bits, prompting me to make this public.

More news on this as I get it folks. The guy I'm dealing with will be back in the area of his works where he will have access to this process fairly soon. As soon as he is, I'll lend him my empeg and we'll see what he can come up with.

Not sure at this stage, but I might see if he will look at the handle too, but this is a secondary consideration at this point. Not sure if his process could make it strong enough to be as reliable (!) as the OEM handle

More news as it happens (but don't hold your breath, this may take a while).

Hi, I could be interested in one. The carbon fibre on the centre console around the gear lever on my car (from the factory - Ford Focus RS) has a matt finish, and it would be quite nice to have a matching CF finish on the empeg :-)

Cheers
