Cool. Thanks for the shots of the insides. Wondered what it looked like in there, but I won't be looking until August 25, 2001.

"The internal warranty sticker was already broken when I received my unit."

Hey it says warranty void if removed not broken :-)

I think we all know what they mean with the warranty-sticker and how it works

With that price i think you should expect more quality (without loctite etc).

I think some little bugs can always be when introducing a new product. Just think of some cars. The Mercedes Benz A-class for example fell on the side when driving a left/right curve-combination too fast (called the "Elk-test")
Or the Audi TT had problems with high speed-curves to hold the line... which caused some deads!! THESE are bugs that are really bad. But not a little problem with a button which can be solved quite easily.

And as Rob said he's talking to the manufactorers to avoid this bug in the future.

Loctite is a standard fitment to many places where vibration can be a problem on many products - including cars themselves.

The problem with this unit is that it had *too much* of it on a screw. This problem has since been addressed (and there was never supposed to be an internal warranty seal, the manufacturers just got creative ;) ).

For what it's worth I appreciate the lock-tite... at least that tells me that the thing will not fall apart while driving over some of the rough roads I frequent. :)

My main complaint with it was the glob that somehow managed to get put on one of the 4 front screws... this caused damage to the front panel which would have happened to empeg co. ltd. inc. or whatever they are if they had attempted to take the front panel off to reconnect the HDD for me instead. Luckily though the damage is inside the fascia... therefore not at all visible... unless you remove the fascia. I do wish though that the fascia could be tightened like most products and not have to be slacked off a bit to allow the buttons to stop sticking.... maybe some more trimming of the mold would be necessary here... no?

About the internal warranty seal... it kinda worried me that it was an official seal... and it was broken.... hard crash during shipping??? Well no matter, my empeg works perfectly... only once did any empeg software fail on me and that was while trying to update the image to Developer v.1 which has since worked fine for me so that may have just been a Win98 Problem. Syncing works wonderfully and I have uploaded about 12 CDs worth of MP3s to the unit over ethernet directly from CD without a single problem... be a tiger... Grrr baby!!!

I love the player, unfortunately I just bought a new Honda CR-V to compliment it and somehow managed to go a little overboard and can't afford the amp I will need... still waiting on suggestion for a small cheap, good quality 4 channel amp... about 24watt RMS per channel.

Later.

P.S. I don't know, I seem to have a fascination with ... for some reason while typing.

Re: My empeg site - 02/09/2000 01:45

i where searching around like crazy for a small affordable 4 way amp (here in switzerland) and where not able to find something. i have now a big 4 way amp which was affordable, but if you don't have much space, it's difficult, maybee then you look better for two small 2 way amp's.

cheers
