ID3v1 vs ID3v2

ID3v1 vs ID3v2 - 26/11/1999 23:54

Ok, I've been searching high and low, and I am _inferring_ (don't anyone jump down my throat on this one) that the emplode software only supports ID3v1.0 tags. Is this correct? I can't find any definitive statements to that effect, just some sidelong references along the way. Currently, I've got about 200+ CDs RIPped with ID3v2.2 and ID3v2.3 tags, and emplode seems to be completely oblivious to their presence :-(

Any confirmation to this effect would be helpful.

Yes. emplode and emptool currently only support ID3v1 tags. Adding support for ID3v1.1 would not be difficult. Support for ID3v2 tags is a larger job and may be undertaken at some point in the future. I've downloaded the library from http://www.id3.org/ and I'll take a look at it when I get the chance.

I see no reason why ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags can't co-exist on the same file - maybe someone has a tool which will add ID3v1 tags based on ID3v2 tags?

I may not be speaking on behalf of empeg above :-)

Thanks for the confirmation.

I was thinking along the same lines, and am currently hunting for one. If anyone knows one, PC or Mac, let me know. I have found one for the Mac (MP3 Inspector) that is still in development, is well-thought-out, and plans to support copying tags between formats in batch mode, but has yet to actually add that feature.

ID3v2 Tag Editor is a work in progress. It supports converting from v2 to v1 and vise-verse, but it doesn't have a batch mode that I can find. It might be worth a shot though.
