Oops.... dead display - 30/11/2005 22:10
Oh dear, just got back from a business trip to the Netherlands, drove to the airport and decided to take the empeg with me instead of leaving it in the car. Despite it being securely packed in the middle of my suitcase it appears to have been crushed.
It boots and plays, the buttons light up but no display. I can't see the heater wires so I assume the tube has discharged, but I can't see any obvious signs as to where it's broken, and if I 'ping' it, it sounds identical to my spare display.
It's been a long day and I'm tired, but any thoughts/ideas?

I did have a spare VFD around here, but it's lost in the middle of all the stuff yet to be sorted after the move (it was a year ago this week!!!).
Let me know if you need me to find it.
Cheers
Cris.

Given your location, you might want to check with Rob S. I know he mentioned a few threads back that he had a bunch of them, and he is (relatively) local to you.

Good point Paul.
Andy, if you need a quick replacement maybe I could "lend" you my spare while you get a new one from Rob? The one I have is one of Paul's from a while back, I got one just in case anything like this happened to me.
Cheers
Cris.

I've got a spare here in the UK if you want to "borrow" it.

Thanks for the offers guys, I've actually got a spare VFD in addition to my spare unit. Going to try and swap display boards and see what happens.

Well I soldered a new VFD in place and it srung into life. Quite simple really, now all I need to do is source another spare VFD.
Also, it may be my eyes, but it looks brighter.....
