'safety feature' in car display on powerup - 02/10/2000 11:46

This may have already been addressed, but I could not find it....

I just upgraded my Empeg Mark 1 to version 1.0. The problem I have is that when the player is powered-up in the car, the display defaults to full-text, instead of whatever I had selected. It works fine in the house.

I know that - in the release notes for Beta 10a this was listed as a new "safety feature" - however, I do believe that 95% of Empeg users want the FULL visuals in the car too, (without having to push extra buttons).

If the empeg folks are not going to "fix" this, then - do any of you programming types know how to fix this, and would you kindly share this with the rest of us.

Thank you. (loving my Empeg)

You only have to push one button. Hold down the bottom button after it boots: bingo, you got your visuals back. This has been hashed over so many times that I will personally hunt down and administer a dope slap to anyone else who replies to this thread.

Please note that in version 1.01, some bugs related to this single-button-press have been fixed. So if you went to version 1.0, you should probably try 1.01 before complaining any further.

And just to challenge your statement that 95 percent of the users would rather not press the extra button, here's a poll on the subject:

Regarding the "text only at bootup" screen:

The single-button-press is a great compromise and I don't mind it.
No, I'm a lazy slob who doesn't care about anyone but myself, and I'd rather have somebody sue Empeg and put them out of business, just so I don't have to press one lousy little button.

Hey - I like what empeg has done in 1.01, but why not take it one step further by making the down arrow button switch between all of the available info screens?

(Tony, don't dope-slap me, I'm only answering him. dope-slap him)

That would be a bit annoying. I would probably mess up and press it quickly. Now I'm in the menu bar. I also don't see why people don't like using the remote. I love it!

Tony, could you do a poll on the remote? I'm not sure how you could label the choices, but I've noticed that alot of people don't like that certain functions are done on the remote.

As for the button press, well, I was for it when I didn't have an empeg. I'm still for it and I applaud them for doing it. Hell, I actually don't usually like to have the visuals come on when I enter the car. I like knowing what's playing. And now that I've gotten used to the Now & Next info screen, I think it's preferable to have that as the first thing I see when I enter the car.

I shouldn't have said anything though, it'll only get me a dope-slap or a flamewar

that'd be cool, as long as the volume-knob still does a one-step visual/text switch...

Tony, could you do a poll on the remote?

I'm pretty sure YOU can do a poll on the remote. I think Paul enabled polls for everyone.

Really? cool, I'll see what I can think of. didn't know about that.

And for all you people getting on my case for saying dope-slap, Tony explains.

I believe there was an instructional website that shows you how to properly administer a dope-slap, but I couldn't find the reply

The virtual dope-slap, as well as in-person administration instructions, are here.

pimp slaps are a unique subset of the more popular bitch slap. I may be wrong about this, but I think bitch slaps can be administered by anyone, whereas pimp slaps can only be used by pimps. Dope slaps are a completely different animal.

I was under the impression that the difference was in the direction of the slap. As in a pimp slap was fore-handed whereas the other was back-handed. But I could be wrong.

Dope slaps are always delivered using the palm of your hand into the back of the head only.
