will the empeg handle the newer 138gb+ drives. I hear theyre going for 200GB by the end of the year

As Mark Lord (mlord) wrote the LBA-48 drivers for linux, he was sure to incorporate them in hijack at version 274. So as long as you use hijack to replace the kernel you will be fine. There are special building instructions though for drives over 80GB.

In otherwords, the drives will be fine, but you'll eventually run up against the 'too many FIDs' problem.

It varies. Depends on the data in the FIDs, I seem to recall. Long track names, comment fields with lots of data in them, that'll use up more database space. (I could be wrong about this but I seem to remember it was like this.) Generally the limit for most of those reporting problems is above ten thousand.
