Empeg as streaming client??

Empeg as streaming client?? - 27/10/2009 19:31

Is there a solution that allows the empeg to function as a streaming client, with the media stored on a server, like the squeezebox? Or perhaps xmms, where it will stream from a url?

Poking around on the bbs, I haven't seen any discussion on this, though there is lots of discussion of streaming from the empeg using hijack.

I love my empeg and its pretty clear that its going to outlive the car that it is currently installed in...I'd love to find a way to keep it in service that still allows me to leverage my entire library, which is several times larger than what my device will hold.

There is the "receiver edition" of the software, which turns it into a Rio Receiver. Documentation

Which brings with it all the difficulties and frustration of getting a working, scalable server implementation in place.

If you want a Squeezebox, buy a Squeezebox. They really are much better network music players than the Receiver or the empeg pretending to be a Receiver.

Thanks Andy. I think I agree. Nonetheless, its good to know that my Empeg has hope of an afterlife.
