Empeg to receive A2DP Bluetooth audio?

Empeg to receive A2DP Bluetooth audio? - 21/08/2010 17:27

Can the empeg receive A2DP Bluetooth audio by adding a USB Bluetooth dongle? This would save me from buying a new headunit just to receive A2DP from my Palm Pre or Motorola Droid.

I remember this old thread, but a lot may have changed in five years.

Thanks.

The empeg USB is slave mode only, so there's going to be no plug-and-play solution. There are some possible workarounds in this thread but they definitely fall into the "project" category.

Thanks for confirming that. It's easier to buy $150 headunits for my cars than enter the "Project" category.

Thanks again.

what about getting a bluetooth reciever with an audio output?

A very very quick google found this (granted its discontinued, but it might be worth spending some time looking for something similar)

Hi,

I have experimented with various dongles to get A2DP so that I can quickly listen to my phone or PDA when I have some new tracks and it is not convenient to upload to the empeg.

Most have been poor in terms of audio quality but yesterday I received one of these:

At £12 delivered, the audio quality is great when connected to the AUX input, and it works with all of my A2DP sources and also has AVCRP so that you can FF/REW etc.

When runniing satnav on the phone, the audio also comes out of the device, over the top of the music, again with good quality.

You do get pops and clicks as it powers up and connects but when playing music, there is no background noise, even on quiet passages.

All in all I am well chuffed with the added functionality for £12.

How does this work in practice? Do you need to press any buttons etc to establish the connection or could it be done automatically?

Reason I ask is that I'm looking for something like this bury in the dash, and have the phone automatically connect when the car powers up. I've seen a few, but it's never clear if you have to manually establish the connection on the device.

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand.

That device is an A2DP receiver, right? And then you have a cable running from its headphone jack to the empeg's aux jacks? Do you have the device mounted on your dash? Now that I think about it, that's a pretty good solution.

You do have to power it on with a button but then it automatically connects with the last used BT device. I fixed a 3.5mm jack plug behind another device on the dash with just the pin sticking out, this then holds the adapter mechanically as well as connecting it to the empeg's aux so it looks quite tidy and you can get to its AVCRP buttons.

I also wanted an autoconnecting one and the most likely candidate was at least twice as much and was still not guarenteed to work as I suspected so this is good cheap compromise and is removeable for other uses.

I don't get this one at all. What's the point of plugging earbuds into a gadget like that instead of directly into the phone.

Because:

- it is tiny
- it weighs nothing (20g)
- it clips on
- you can leave your phone in your bag

I don't have need of something like that myself, but I can see how it would be useful for some people.

you could also do what I do and connect the mini jack out on the Jabra Clipper to the RCA input on the empeg. Then your phone's audio is piped over bluetooth through the clipper and into the AUX in on the empeg. You get a phone call, the music (your phone is playing) pauses. Answer by pressing the center button on the clipper. Speak into the clipper, caller's voice comes in through empeg (car speakers)... Pretty awesome esp if your car has no bluetooth... ;-)
