Cannot connect to Empeg. - 16/01/2001 18:37

Ok. I have found something with my computer. Mayby you guru's could help. I have the Displayserver installed and it works like it should(when I am connected to the Internet.) If I try to access the Displayserver while off-line, I get errors. Explorer will never even ask for the password. As soon as I am logged on and I try to access the Displayserver, everything works.

What is my computer asking the net? Or what am I missing on my computer to allow me to access the displayserver?

Greetings!

How are you connected? From what I read, it sounds like it could be one of the following:

Your computer could be trying to do a DNS query and failing.
Your computer could be trying to get to the IP address of the empeg, but the route you are using goes through your ISP.
You are not using a hub, but a multifunction DSL/Cable/NAT device, and you are disconnecting from that.

You might want to try putting in a static route on your computer. Try doing (while connected) a traceroute to your empeg, and then try the same trick while disconnected.

Ok, I am using a hub. Two actually. A 24port 10baset uplink to a 10/100 switch. I can ping the Empeg either on or off line. I am using 192.168.0.1 on my computer and 192.168.0.99 on the Empeg. Netmask of 255.255.255.0. Tracert shows only the Empeg either on or off-line.

Another note. I just tried Netscape 6 and it loads offline. So it looks like a problem in Explorer.

Found the problem. Explorer was trying to use a proxy for some reason. I think that is a by product of my DirecPC. Took that off and all is well.
