Yippiee!! Gonna built a control-stick hookup - 14/02/2001 04:22

To bring this up again..let's say as reminder or to show those who didn't read all posts from past...

I'm going to build the hookup from car-built in control-stick to the empeg serial line.
Thanks to charlieP for the simple hookup of the sony stick.
The thing I'm going to do is converting my Peugeot's stick that it acts like a Sony stick. I'm not too sure how I'm going to do that. As I've seen on some plans the peugeot-stick is build like the sony-stick but I think I'll have to measure all funktions (vol+/-, prev/next song etc) 'cause I couldn't get any detailed plans of the stick itself.

anyone an idea?

Autoleads (www.autoleads.co.uk) do converters from peugeot -> sony stick.

Thanks a lot! That's great! I just wrote them a mail.
I'll tell how things are going on...

For everyone else - they have a lot of connectors to hook up other car's control sticks, too. They also have dash fascia-adaptors for many car-brands to install an aftermarket hifi. For everyone who's not sure - ask them.

Anyone done this with a Dodge product?
I have an 2000 Durango with controls built into the wheel.
Just wondering.

Ask your local Dodge dealer for technical details of how the controls are hooked up.
I talked to my local Peugeot dealer and he faxed me a plan - well it's not that detailed but you see how the controls are integrated. That helped a bit.As I saw the plan I came to the idea that it's working similar to the sony-stick.

How is the pioneer steering wheel remote working? How is it connected? DO you know that? I think there can't be too many ways how such a simple device can work.
Maybe a call at pioneer could help finding out how it works. Or you could measure the signals coming out of the connector...
just a few ideas..

i assume you mean do i know teh freq range the remote is working on, in which case no, but even if i had it, i wouldn't know how to hack teh empeg to accept it :(

Re: Yippiee!! Gonna built a control-stick hookup - 15/02/2001 02:28

Hmm.. very simple - just convert them into the correct serial signals

Sorry - I'm not that good in such hardware-based tech's. I just built the converter based on charlie's description...

uupss.. I guess I misunderstood something at that point..
Could it be I read something here in this BBS of how to hack the empeg to other frequencies or am I wrong?
I don't really know - I didn't spend too much time in those deep technical things...

Re: Yippiee!! Gonna built a control-stick hookup - 15/02/2001 06:28

You can't change the IR rx frequency, it's fixed by the IR receiver module itself.

However, I suspect that the current receiver will receive pioneer codes, it just needs a new state machine (or mods to the current one) in order to actually decode the IR. It's not something we're about to do officially, though - sorry.

I found another online shop (Autoleads has no online-shop):
www.autotechnik-dietz.de

Unfortunately this little shitty adapter costs about $ 110,-- .
I asked if this is just a simple adapter without any electronic parts but it is not. It has a built in logic ... And I don't get the electronic plans for it - What I can understand at this point..

.. As I saw they order some of their parts at www.autoleads.co.uk.
The world is small, isn't it.

For those interested:

They have adapters to Sony for folowing car brands:

BMW
Citroen
Fiat
Ford
Jaguar
Landrover
Opel
Peugeot
Renault
Rover
Saab

That's what I found. Not for all types of these brand but for many types.

Are you guys talkinga bout using steering wheel remotes, if so , there is aplace with an adaptor for virtually any car that will make steering wheels remotes work with almost any aftermarket head unit (yes kenwod) for like $50

i will post the link if anyone cares.

Are you talking about these guys?

Note: Watch out going to the above link (http://www.go2pac.com/news.htm). There is no graceful way to back out of their website, it loops you in a "circle jerk"!

I just tried out a PAC SWI-3 last week and was very dissapointed with the response time. Alternately I built a simple card to do the same thing, but used the kenwood remote to generate the IR pulses. The thread is in the technical forum.

OK - I got the adapter which converts from Peugeot (or some other brands) to Sony.
I opened the box and unfortunately it has some logic built in. So there'll be no way (at least not for me) to post some schemata of how this is connected...
