Kernel update when using Control Stick

As I've got the adapter yesterday I'm wondering if I have to upload a developer's image to the Mk2 or if ithe Mk2 works with a control-stick via serial-port with the standard image, too.
( I think currently I've 1.01 installed.. maybe 1.00, I don't remember..)
