Help - No Display - 28/08/2001 01:00

My wife returned home from a shopping trip over the weekend to report "There's nothing on the display of the empeg" !!

What could it be, it still plays fine and I checked displayserver to see that all is correct there too?

It is blank on home PSU and in the car.

is the dimmer-pin connected in the car?
maybe the dimmer-setting is set to 0...

That's what I thought so I connected it at home to try to change the settings through displayserver. Then I remembered that you don't get the dimmer setting at home (always full). No display at home or car! Getting worried now.

What about the LED, is it flashing? No matter what, the display should be visible at home under normal conditions.

I had my MK1 display fail, and when it did, the standby LED would just flash.

You may what to contact support at this point to see about getting it worked on.

It may be the same problem that i had... I was a moron! Somehow the visual got set to the 'blank' visual & it took me forever to figure out that that all I had to do was set it back to info mode. I got all freaked out that my empeg was broken.

That shouldn't be the case because you should always get the info display in the car, even if the visual is set to blank. You would see something.
Could be a fault in the display itself.

IIRC: the 'antenna-up' wire is connected to the display. If that's true, it should show 12V (?) when the unit is on.
Anyone able to confirm this?

Well the Amps still work so I suppose it is showing 12V. Support will collect the unit today to inspect it so we should soon know what the problem is. This does mean a few days of music depletion for me though.

Well, empeg have informed me that the "fill nipple" had broken off the VFD, probably due to shock.

At around £100 for the repair, I don't think she will be banging it again.

mm, yes that would do it. I did exactly the same thing by dropping it from about a metre onto the from lower right corner. The fill nipple sits directly over the knob body and as the display floats a bit, harsh jarring in that direction will break it.

One advantage of having a MK1 ay - there's no knob to break off the nipple
