Tuner Specs?

Tuner Specs? - 09/09/2001 14:38

The manual says it uses a fuzzy logic autotuning, RDS & RBDS capable & the FM tuning range. Does anyone know what other specs the tuner has? i.e. sensitivity, signal/noise, etc.?

Not that I can find any specs that are in the same language/units as any other tuner I can find, but:

FM:
Sensitivity typ 1.4uV (test conditions 30db S+N/N)
S+N/N typ 64dB
THD+N typ 0.07%
Adjacent channel selectivity 90dB (test conditions distance +-200kHz, audio -30dB, ref=audio at rd input=17dBuV)

AM:
Sensitivity typ 4.0uV (test conditions: 10dB S+N/N)
S+N/N: typ 50dB (f=1000Hz)
THD+N: typ 0.35%

I noticed from the features list that "Weather band optional" was listed.
Is it possible that this is avalible with a software upgrade??

Just curious.

Officially, the tuners are all non-weatherband ones (this is what we ordered); in actual fact, some of them *are* weatherband capable (they had stock they wanted to shift).

There's no official support for weatherband, though.

Thank You Hugo, this is what, more or less, I was looking for.
I don't suppose there's a way to tell which modules are WX capable?

There is, yes. Electronically, we can check the calibration values for weatherband - if they're present, it's a weatherband unit.

The other way is to open the black box (though there are no warranty stickers, I wouldn't recommend this method obviously). The weatherband module has a red label on the top, the normal one has a green label.

It's FM at 162.4MHz-162.55MHz, has emergency weather warnings and so on. Only in the USA though, I believe. I'm sure someone else here knows more!

A quick Google turned up <URL:http://www.srh.noaa.gov/tbw/nwr/>.

I believe that RDS supports a similar feature (though my home stereo only supports interruption/wakeup for TA, News and Info programming - I'm not sure that Weather is a separate category).

Ok. If its an American feature, perhaps that why i havn't heard of it. But it makes sence that 'they' have a weather band with all the wild weather over there.

Can we just enter the freq. or must the software be changed to allow this?
