WinXP not working w/Serial?

I tried to do a firmware upgrade on my rio car, but my system cannot find the player. It works fine to find it on ethernet, but can't locate it on the serial connector. Works fine on my Win2k machine, just not my XP machine. I'm sure others are running Windows XP Pro, is this an OS issue or just my machine?

I have win xp pro and it is working fine for me.

Works fine on my system running Windows XP Home.
Although I have had a couple of minor issues, which are not probably due to Windows XP.

Are you using a real Serial port or one on a USB adapter?
[the latter doesn't work for me - I've tried], so I now use my COM1 Port [I have a USB mouse].

finally got it working with emplode. Couldn't get JEmplode to recognize it though. oh well, at least I can do the upgrade. Thanks for the help and info that it could work.
