Need program to fix VBR MP3 with incorrect header - 13/01/2002 22:12

About 2% of the VBR MP3s I've ripped with EAC + LAME wind up having a problem with the VBR info header (xing header?), and when I go to play them in winamp, the playlist will show incorrect time (usually much larger), and still show the incorrect (though different) time when playing.

Alos, These damaged files often trip the low bitrate alarm in Tag & Rename.

I downloaded MP3Utility (found the link on riocar.org), and that doesn't detect any problems with these files.

What I'm looking for idealy is a program that can batch scan for bad files, but I'll settle for anything that can actually fix the headers.

Any recommendations?

Try MP3 Tag Studio on the file. I've found that it will fix some problems with files that VBRFix won't. This is in the FAQ.

mp3tool can probably also fix them -- and it's now better than before due to a recent bugfix (last night).

The hijack website has a link to mp3tool at the top, and there's even a pre-compiled version for running ON THE EMPEG itself!

I know I sent you a message earlier, but...

THANK YOU!

Now I am planning on using mirrordb to generate a symlink tree, and turning mp3tool loose on it overnight.

Or you could just run mp3tool on the /drive*/fids/*1 files directly, although some of them are playlists rather than tunes.. But if you back those files up to a different directory first, and then just move them back again later, it will be fine. Or just use "find" or a shell script to ensure mp3tool is invoked only for files > 2KB.

Greetings!

I was thinking of doing that on the directory structure, but it would get a bit messy. I made a test batch, copying a small bunch of the files to a temporary directory, and ran into memory allocation issues. (I have a dual 48GB drive system, so I have about 31,000 files to chew through. Thus my immense relief in being able to do this on the empeg itself.)

My next attempt will be to create a batch, and make the calls directly on individual files. Probably a find -name > output file, edited down to remove small files. I intend to take my time with it - I don't really want to have to reload this unit if I can avoid it.

Question on the http server: is there a way I can force a default filename (i.e., index.html)? I did not see it in the source, and it might make a nice addition for config.ini.

Hijack v125 (now out) scans for index.html before doing a regular directory list operation. Totally non-configurable.

Ooops.. that should have said "v124", not "v125".. I haven't put out a v125 yet. Of course, by the time you read this post..
