Next Beta?

Next Beta? - 21/01/2002 10:05

Sorry if this has been discussed, but it seems that everyone is having problems with B7 and B3 isn't much better because it lacks the features of B7. When can we expect the next release?

Whenever they feel its ready for a public release. There are some big problems with emplode - namely the cut and paste problem - that are hopefully going to be fixed.

The cut and paste problem was actually a very minor problem which happened to have a major effect. It has been fixed in their internal code base for weeks.

They're going through the bug list and taking care of everything they can right now.

I haven't had any problems with beta 7.

We expect to release Beta 8 within the next week. As well as about 60 bug fixes it will have one or two long-awaited new features (hopefully not broken!).

Not bad for an "unsupported product."

Thanks a million, guys.

WMA and ...............

Re: Next Beta? - 21/01/2002 18:33

I hadn't actually thought of that one. We might get this Beta out ahead of WMA, since the last update was that our new licence was expected to arrive late this week. I won't hold up the Beta for it, since there's sure to be another release in the near future (maybe another Beta, maybe a final, who knows!).

This may have been gone over already but have the seek issues been dealt with?

Re: Next Beta? - 21/01/2002 18:49

I dealt with them since b7 was first released. Don't use that info mode. Simple. I've had less problems with b7 than I had with b3.

The biggest "problem" is that b7 definitely doesn't skip tracks as fast nor does it count or shuffle a playlist as fast as b3. I hope this has been remedied in the new internal builds.

Well if you toggle through all the info modes you have to go through seek and then I get a reboot.

Oh, I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. That's never happened on mine. I did that a bunch of times when the beta was first released. I also played with seek on a few tracks with no problem. Now I always leave it on track info mode and flip to visuals once in a while.

I am 99% sure that's a known bug and they've fixed it for the next release, among other fixes to the seek tool.

I'm an upgrade junkie - must have new beta!!
I know we can sit at a stable build, but it's half the fun seeing the new features, trying to diagnose weird problems. My first task of the day when I get in to work is grab Mark Lords latest offering and then get my breakfast.

I'm just impressed at how much everyone developing the empeg manages to accomplish - considering lots of them have other jobs, kids etc.

Seriously - well done! Keep on rollin'

Re: Next Beta? - 23/01/2002 09:09

Yeah I love new stuff too, though now that I'm a software developer by trade, I'm starting to lose my lust for beta software and enjoy things that just *work* when I use them. The Empeg is my one luxury where I don't mind a bug or three if I can get new features early... But I also realize that posting here asking when the next beta will be released doesn't help me get it any faster.

As you've noted, Empeg development (both the official and unofficial variety) is a labor of love. It's a platform that has amazing potential that's still yet to be tapped, and in this era when a 3 month old PDA is outdated, I think that's pretty impressive. That quality is what makes programmers put a little extra in, and we all appreciate the results.

Now if I could just work out the bugs in my autopilot code...
