File transfer question - 23/01/2002 20:45

Hi. This is my first post on here. Nice place I have been reading alot of the posts. Had a question, I just saw that the empegs where on closeout and would like to get one since I have always wanted one. My question is I have about 6000 mp3s to put on there. Will I have to rename anything or do some other time intesive things to transfer the files to the player. I wasnt sure if it had some certain program or somethign you had to use. Thanks for your help.

Remember to read through the sections about preparing the MP3s. There's nothing particularly onerous about it, it's just that 6000 MP3's is going to take a while to upload and organize. Most relevant entries are here, here, here, and here.

Congratulations on your new toy!

You just ordered one now?! They may already be sold out, but if not, congrats!

Take Tony's advice and read the FAQ. It will help. And don't get too overwhelmed by all the organizing you need to do. Think of it as something to do while you are waiting for your Rio to arrive. That is what I did. I had to wait weeks for mine to ship from the UK and I was fine with the wait because spending the whole time updating ID3 tags and ripping more CD's was almost theropy!

Closed out. Past tense. Sonicbue may have a couple left but it's unlikely (but who knows). If not, someone else is selling a bunch here. Slightly higher price but beggers can't be choosers.

Does anybody have phone number for sales? I just keep getting auto response emails from them with trouble shooting tips when I emailed about the sale to make sure it was legit.

THanks,

The eStore might have a few problems, but it's not a scam. You won't lose your money if the product is out of stock - but if it said "In Stock" then there shouldn't be any problem anyway.

The players were sold out - on paper - but there will be cases where a sale was not completed and the goods will be released back to stock. I daresay SB are also locating inventory that was set aside elsewhere (retail for example) and reassigning it to the eStore for clearance.

Probably the best advice I could offer is to take your time. There is no earthly reason that you have to have all 6,000 of those songs installed into your RioCar the first week you have it.

Do it one or three or maybe five CDs at a time, and spend what seems to be a ridiculous amount of time getting your tag information exactly, perfectly right -- all the words spelled correctly, capitalization and punctuation properly done, and as much information as you can possibly extract from the liner notes and still fit into the tag format. It will seem like a lot of work -- but you will be very grateful in the future that you did it right.
