"Empeg party" - 24/01/2002 16:05

Does anyone ever get together and have a "lan party" with your players, and trade MP3's?

I certainly hope not.

I am assuming that you're not talking about non-commercial MP3's.

There are regular owner meets, but they tend to concentrate on something more constructive than music piracy.

Besides it gets tiring caging all the parots at those piracy parties. Not to mention people tend to drink too much and then the rest of the night is spent looking for misplaced peg-legs.

Aye Aye Matey! Arrrrr...

Does anyone have a good encode of the "Pieces of eight!" thing? I'm training a new parrot and she keeps repeating the clicks and pops from the old 32k CBR XING encode I did of the original using a dusty record played through a gramaphone with a radio shack lapel mic.

Re: "Empeg party" - 24/01/2002 23:04

Heh, that would be so cool to hear a parrot do that.

You could drag that audio file into Cool Edit and locate the pops and kill them... Maybe some frequency filtering, too, so the bird hears what it needs to hear better to impersonate the sound.

Have you tried looking for it on Napster/Morpheus, etc.. ? I'd try but im not at home right now and I don't like installing software on other peoples computers. (They seem to tend to turn to me for tech support for EVERYTHING after that).

I would love a high quality copy of "Pieces of eight!". The one I have sucks. Not sure about the legality. I don't think you can buy it as it came in drummers magazine or something.

Also does anyone know if Peart every did a solo album. I looked last year but only came up with Pieces of eight and one other bit he did. I would love a full hour of his insane percussions. Thanks!

I've not looked to see if there is one, but www.dailywav.com is always a good place for that sort of snippet.

If enough people w/in driving distance of PA are interested, we can have one at the shop. Dyno, install help, whatever. But don't plan on coming for piracy. Anyone with a peg leg or parrot will be turned away.

A carrot.

Okay, officer, I'll come quietly.

Re: "Empeg party" - 25/01/2002 11:58

Neil is the man.
I have an entire section of my empeg dedicated to all my rush cds.

Oh and whoever was blabbing about an empeg meet in PA.. I would be interested in seeing others' installations. I also have a few friends with empegs too.

Re: "Empeg party" - 25/01/2002 12:47

What do you get when you cross centipede with parrot?

Walkie-talkie.

But that is not point.....I shall now continue empeg jihad. Do you know why Rio discontinued empeg? I sent suicide-bomber (whom I shall meet in paradise in about 30 years) to blow up half stock of players.

No. He wrote a book, and has done lots of other side projects involving other people (like the Burning for Buddy project), but did not make a genuine "solo" album that I know of.

After he lost Jackie and Selena a few years back, he essentially did nothing for quite a while. I heard that he's "all better now" and he's re-married, and that Rush was supposed to be working on a new album together last year. But nothing since then.

I might be interested in coming to PA also, especially if I get install help. But it would depend on where in PA and when. Keep us informed if you really plan this. A east coast meet would be nice since I doubt I will ever go to the west coast.

I'm about 20 minutes west of Philly, I could foresee making such a meet.

I'm in Jersey...count me in for PA meet (so long as it's somewhere on the Eastern side of the state).

Re: "Empeg party" - 26/01/2002 06:42

Just give plenty of advance notice so I can take some vacation time off of work. If there is a good install shop near there I could have that done while I am out there.

I drive a company Dodge Caravan that I want the empeg and tuner installed in without changing speakers if possible since I'll be turning it back in for a new van in a couple of years and want to be able to take everything back out at that time. So maybe just an easy install with a RF modulator or taking out the stock head unit and putting in an amp and maybe a sub. But since the van is completely full of equipment I carry around I'm not sure where anything could go. I have the 2 front seats in it but the rest are gone.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: "Empeg party" - 26/01/2002 06:56

Maybe if enough people commit to this, the guys from empeg will come bearing gifts of bumper stickers, t-shirts and empeg bags!
