Empeg mod - 30/04/2002 10:56

Hi everyone

I have done something terrible.... I "casemodded" my Empeg....

A while ago I bought a CompactFlash to IDE converter to be able to transfer pictures from my digital camera onto the Empeg.

Thanks to the kind people in this forum I quickly got the necessary code written to do the copying.

But I needed a way to be able to change the Compactflash Cards without taking the Empeg apart every time. So I came up with the idea of making a lid in the top cover of the unit. As I didn't want to cut up the original cover I went to my utility store to buy a steel plate. They didn't have any steel plates, but instead they had some plexiglass. I gave it a try and here's the result:

This way I no longer have any problems convincing my friends and family that the Empeg actually is the most advanced thing you can wrap your car around...:D
For those of you interested, I put up some more pictures of the Empeg and some screenshots of my CompactFlash copy script in action at http://www.kildal.dk/gallery/Empeg .

Regards
Nicolai

Nice!

Wonder how much radio noise you're leaking without the lid... Can't say that I've ever noticed anything while using darkstorms lenses...

Hehe, funny you should ask...
I actually had to "wriggle" it around a bit to get it out of the carmount, but it worked out ok...

The plexiglass is 3 mm thick so I had to "lower" it into the empeg. I let it run underneath the metal flip at the back of the unit instead of over as the original cover...

Cool iPeg!

Now you need transparent buttons and a translucent green fascia, and you're all set!

Interested in seeing how the Compact Flash thing comes out in the end.

I don't know about any increase in radio noise - except that there is no audible noise in my system with the new lid...
But perhaps my airbags or my abs brakecomputer will tell me something else one day

I was thinking exactly the same thing. But how to do it in a 60GB model?? If *only* the empeg had a USB master it would be perfect
