what does that headlite wire do?

hi there!

ok i installed my rio now and had connected that headlite sense correctly.. but i wonder what exactly happens when i turn on my headlites?
i guess... nothing! right? so why is it there?

Turn on your headlights, then adjust the dimmer. The next time you turn on your headlights, your dimmer will dim to this setting. Very classy.

Ok, then I am guessing that when 12v is applied to this wire, then the dimmer sensor is activated therefore dimming the display?
