Install Hijack, and then go to the "Vital signs" screen from the Hijack menu.

Or,

Install Hijack, connect to ethernet, and point your web browser at http://your.empeg.ip.addr/proc/ide/hda/model and again at http://your.empeg.ip.addr/proc/ide/hdb/model

...Or hook up terminal services, watch the boot sequence and see if there are two drives found on it. Sometimes the direct approach is easiest.

...or shine a torch through the vent on the top to see how many drives there are, although that won't tell you who made them.

Unless it has been upgraded, it will have one 20GB drive.

Unless it's a very old player - Mk.1's had 2x10GB.

But that won't show the make/model. Only /proc/ide/*/model shows that information.

Greetings!

It does. Granted, not much detail and a little cryptic, but a quick google search can translate the code to the make / model, if the code itself doesn't help. I know some drives are easier to read than others...

Doh! But of course you are correct.

Just shows how much I've forgotten about code I wrote a while ago..

No problem. See, you thought of this problem with the empeg long in advance of the unit ever being built!!! I think someone owes you royalties...
