best day and time to end an auction? - 25/10/2002 12:31

i'm planning to sell some tech releated stuff on ebay.. i'd love to get the most exposure i can. in general, i've read that the best time to end an auction is sunday between 4-6pm. i'm sure that applies to the general public, but what of the technical crowd?

say i'm selling a new segate scsi drive. will the average joe browsing at Sunday 4-6pm take interest? or should i end it on monday 12p-2p. reason is, i believe that most techies would check ebay when bored at their jobs/lunch breaks. what do all of you think?

It all depends on time zones doesn't it? 12:00pm to me could be 3:00am to you...

I think Sunday is your best bet. Your right about people looking at Ebay at lunch and at breaks but the real action will happen in the last hours of the auction. You should maximize your results by placing those last hours at a time when most people are not working but are in a place where they can monitor your auction and bid during the last hour and the last few minutes.

I help run a .co.uk auction site for PCs and our webtrends repeatedly show that you get the most hits on a Monday and the fewest on Saturday/Sunday.
The busiest times (on average) are between 16:00 and 18:00. Most listings are timed to close between 16:30 and 17:30 but if there's activity in the last 10mins then it's extended by a further 10mins etc.
