hi. I've got a Mk2 20gb with sled and tuner. I'd like $600 for the Empeg and $300 for the tuner...

Isn't that a bit expensive?

Its only worth what people are prepared to pay!

If I were you, I'd skip the $900 20GB unit. None too cool to price gouge in such a nice community. Here...

Granted, it's only a 10GB, but who want's less than 60+ anyhow? Not to mention it would leave money for a spiff illuminated button kit in the near future. I don't know about you, but I don't have the empeg so I can listen to $300 (*cough* price gouge *cough*) worth of radio. I have it to listen to my personal music.

Cheaper to wait for the pcats to start shipping again anyhoo.

Yes webroach, I think you are right. Luckily enough, mr Beefhead, who by the way, is a very nice and helpful man, sold me a mk2a for $400. I think he will ship it today

Congrats!

Hope you enjoy it, and truly glad to hear you got a good price!

Gee, you really should get that cough looked at. To the untrained ear, it sounds like you may have some kind of obnoxious infection. Perhaps a lancing is in order?

I'm not looking to price gouge, that's about what these things were going for a bit earlier in the year. If there's a new market price, I'm happy to get some input.

I was trying to help out, holier-than-thou crap doesn't help anybody.

I think it was actually holio-than-thou crap.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Hi Holio,
I wasn't implying that you wanted to rip me off, but you can't blame me for buying for a lower price, can you?
I'm just glad that I'm getting a riocar and wish you luck selling your unit.

You are way to high. Your empeg is only worth around $400 itself.

Re: Looking for Mk2 / MK2a - 22/12/2003 19:15

Many here including myself would disagree with that statement. I bought mine at fire sale prices, but many here bought for the original price of over $1000. Even at the original price I think many would say they got a deal. At one point earlier this year every Empeg for sale on eBay went for over $500.

I had many choices when I got my empeg about 2 weeks ago for around $400 from several different sources.

I think he means just as far as their monetary value these days. I bought my first one for over $1000, but I wouldn't even consider that these days, not that I think I got rooked initially.

I actually paid over $800 USD for my MkIIA...

Honestly, if anything happened to it, there would be no limit to what I'd pay to replace it.

Yeah, you're probably right. I would not have responded if he had made a statement like: "Right now the going price on eBay and this board for an Empeg is about $400", but you cannot assign a worth to the Empeg like he did in his statement.

You are way to high. Your empeg is only worth around $400 itself.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I just remember when the carplayer.com guy was getting ripped a new one when he kept raising the prices as supply dwindled, and don't wish it to repeat. If the price is too high (or even "to high"), don't buy. Eventually the seller will figure out he's asking for more than people are willing to pay.

Re: Looking for Mk2 / MK2a - 23/12/2003 13:02

I agree, in a sense. As I said, I paid just over $800 USD for mine. Could I have waited a bit and gotten a better deal? Probably. But I decided that for me, at the time, that was a fair asking price. There weren't a ton of unit being sold at the time, but that was about the average asking price. But I don't agree with raising the price BECAUSE people are willing to pay it. That's ugly. That's why I like this board; people are more interested in helping others than they are in pure profit.

I may have been a bit nasty to holio, but look.... a few moments searching on this board or Ebay would show that $600 is about $150 the going price. (Not that that excuses being nasty, mind you.)

Everyone on this board has always seemed nice, and offering a new poster an MkIIa with a tuner for $900 hit me wrong. It seemed like a "hey, since I know there aren't many available, I can ask a mint and get it.." kinda deal. Which I'm sure it wasn't. I just wish that thought had occurred to me bofore I hit "continue".

But...The forum should be a nice friendly place, and I was hardly helping to keep it that way...I mean, I really do try, but I'm from New York; being overtly friendly doesn't really come naturally to us.

So, holio, please accept my apology.

You betcha. I still would like some input on what a "fair price" is though. Misunderstandings happen... :-)

Re: Looking for Mk2 / MK2a - 24/12/2003 01:59

The only barometer I have ever really known is what the average selling price around the net (ie. here and Ebay) is.

The biggest problem I've seen is people will sell, say, a 20GB for $500, but want $750 for a 30GB. Now I'm no rocket scientist, but I think I can get 10GB of laptop drive for less tha $250.

If I were to sell mine (let's say if I needed to pay for a heart transplant or something), I would probably ask for:

$350 base, just for the unit itself
+$380 since that's todays low on pricewatch.com for 2 x 80GB laptop drives. (My MkIIa is a 160GB)

for a grand total of $730. Maybe that's low, who knows. But that's what I'd charge. Or they could have it for $400 with a 10 or 20GB in it. Whatever I grabbed first.

But, like I said, it would require VERY desperate times for me to sell.

There are a lot of us on this bbs (myself included) who paid more than twice that amount, and consider it to be among the best money ever spent.

...and consider it to be among the best money ever spent.

I couldn't agree more. Knowing what I know now, I'd have sold blood to get it, if it had been neccessary.
