I have 5 NEW Rio empeg car players(10GB, 12GB, 20GB) for sale. I believe they are MK2a. Only 1 20GB was opened, but never installed. Everything included. You can buy a laptop hard drive and upgrade it yourself. E-mail me [email protected] if interested. I am in IL 61801.

too expensive..if youre the same guy that was selling them on half.com for 660 dollars and ebay for 550 for a 12 gig youre crazy!! I just bought a brand new 20 gig for 500...so why would or should I or anyone else pay so much?

I also happened to get an excellent deal on mine when I bought it. But to be fair to the seller, do you have any idea what the original selling prices of these units were? Let's not forget that there isn't another car-based mp3 player out there that is better, or even equal.

Yeah but thats why they went under because they were too expensive..I guarantee over half the people who own empegs didnt pay more than 700 bucks for them...and I'm sure they were worth it.I just think with as many as there are being sold it seems a little high..

I guess for right now they are over priced. But prices are bound to go back up eventually I think.

Its worth whatever people will pay for it. If someone is prepared to pay $1000 then its because its worth that to them.

I'm not being a jerk, but do you know that for a fact? I'm curious because I assumed all the firesold players had most likely found homes with users (in use or as backups).

So true. But it is kind of a drag when an uneducated buyer gets sharked by a high price. I guess we have to hope that buyers check EBay sold prices and check here before buying. ::shrugs::

$750 for each of my players, and I would have paid double that back in the day if I'd seen that awesome video with the visualizations. That video convinced me that empeg was no "flimsy hard drive that's going to break" like I assumed.

Yes I do know this for a fact. I've bought one from him.

Overall good seller and his prices are reasonable. Considering how great the empeg is and what they originally sold for.

I don't know exactly how many he bought. But he's been selling them for quite a while. So he didn't essentially wait 2 yrs. This is probably just the end of his stock.

Either way I think their worth the money and I would never sell mine for the going ebay rate.

Most of what is selling on ebay these days is used equipment, the seller claims these are new, should make them worth a little more.

Actually with the Empeg. I would rather own a known good working used one. As long as there was no cosmetic damage.

Reson is.. If its used and working great then you know for sure it doesn't have the aches of cold solder joint, bad ide cable, etc etc.

Technicially empeg (the company) never went under. They got bought by Rio, at a time when they wern't having any problems selling the units for $1000 and up. Rio began to sell them via Car Toys even, but then pulled out. The general impression I got was that Rio had no interest in competiting with the likes of Sony, Pioneer, and others in the car market. They however did, and still do have an interest in marketing to OEMs, to have this type of device sold as the main car stereo.

Sales wise, probably a good half were sold before the firesale. Estimates put the total units worldwide at about 4,500, with about 400 being Mark 1, 1000 being Mark 2, and the rest being Mark 2a.
