Where to find empeg mk2a's - 07/04/2002 16:28

Just wanted to let everyone know of a site carrying the empeg mk2a's.

www.carplayer.com

Anyone know of other sites? Also I'm looking for a carrying case. Haven't had any luck finding one.

Both of these topics are covered in the same FAQ entry, right here. This is literally item number 2 in the entire FAQ

When you posted your message, there was a blinking and flashing box on the screen telling you to read the FAQ before posting. It looked like this:

Did you miss that box somehow? Is there something I need to do to make it blink more? Or something I could have done to make you actually do what it said? There's been a recent sudden increase in posts of people asking FAQs, including direct e-mails to my personal e-mail box, and I'm trying to figure out what we've done wrong and why people are missing it.

Yep. You are right. I read the FAQ before but didn't remember carplayer being talked about. Probably because I was skimming through those parts to get to more important parts. I did not see anything about carrying cases on those sites except o carplayer but all they had was a description. I didn't see a price or a way to order one.

On all of my machines, the blink is very slow and there are good portions of the time where the entire thing has blinked out. If you want it to be obnoxious, it should be in a very high contrast color, possibly into the realm of interference, it should blink fast, not slow, and it should never be totally missing.

Another idea would be to have an interstitial page that forces you to click a button or link to actually get to a page where you can enter data.

Well, there was a trade-off between having it be non-irritating for the regular users, but be noticeable to the newbies. I realize that it doesn't do a huge amount of irritating blinking, but since it's right above the box where they enter their new message, they have to see it cycle at least half a dozen times before they're done typing.

And so far, I haven't seen anyone say "I did not see that link" unless they had images turned off in their browser (and there's nothing I can do about that one). I was afraid this guy was going to be the first to have missed the image. But in fact, he had not missed it, he'd just managed to miss that entry in the FAQ. So the first thing (did he miss the blink) is not an issue, but I don't know how to fix that second thing (he still didn't know it was in the FAQ). I guess I have to accept the old horse/water axiom.

Actually, you could do at least something about it: Include an "ALT" option inside the <IMG> HTML-Tag. Currently, the IMG tag looks like this:
<IMG SRC="/images/read_the_faq.gif">
But it probably should look like this:
<IMG SRC="/images/read_the_faq.gif" ALT="Read the FAQ!!!">

Hi Tony.

At least he didn't do it yet. Shouldn't be too important though.

Well, I'll be honest and say that, until now, I've never seen that before. It does take too long to show up, and is in the 'off' flash state for too long, in my opinion.

I would think it would be good if it came up even on replies to existing postings, too... but that may not be necessary. Maybe, and I realise this would probably need more coding, it could be made to be significantly visible and annoying, but only show up for people with less than 50 postings, or similar?

Cheers,

A.
