Win2k DHCP Server

Win2k DHCP Server - 13/09/2002 03:47

Anyone know of a free DHCP server for Win2k Professional? Nothing fancy. I just need something so that a couple of laptops can move between 3 simple networks without servers of any type and 2 networks already setup with DHCP servers. I don't want braindead users having to mess with network settings.

Basically there are two large fixed networks already running DHCP servers and 3 very small nets with no server, so I kinda have to use DHCP clients on the laptops.

I've considered letting the clients timeout and picking default addresses but I don't really like that idea.

Maybe someone has a better idea. A simple DHCP server would solve the problem quick and easy though.

And no there aren't any *nix boxes anywhere. On the small nets, it's all Win2k Professional...

Thanks guys.

If you use ICS, there is a DHCP server built in to Windows 2000 pro. (I know...I'd rather use a hardware router, but my ISP requires acceleration software on the server to optimize data transmissions for satellite.)

Thanks guys. I was aware of the ICS server, but since the machines aren't internet connected in any way I don't know whether this can be used. No modems just one ethernet card.

I will experiment and perhaps try and create a "fake" internet connection and then pretend to share it. It might work.... I'll report back
