iPod use in car - 19/09/2002 12:46

a good friend of mine is looking for a way to use his iPod in his saab. saab does not use any RCA cables for the head unit, single indash CD or the amp(s).
does anyone have any experience with the RF type of 'car kits' that will allow the use of a hand held 'walkman' type of device?
the wireless unit we tried is sub-par, but I have seen units that tie in the the radio antenna. any better? any other options? (other than the tape thingie)
thanks all,
dan

I recommend the Irok 300W. I use it for playing MP3s in rental cars. Works well and is the best built that I have handled. I sent one to Archeon. Maybe he can give his opinion on it since he may use it more than me.

Yeah, I would if I could. Unfortunately it's still laying around here doing nothing.
Why?
The iPod I plan on buying has still not reached my distributor. I've been waiting for this thing since the beginning of august now. Every week they postpone the release date for yet another week.
*sigh*

I use that same model of Irock as well. It works well and they sell them off the shelf at Radio Shack. The only wish I have is that it could be powered by an adapter off the cigarette lighter socket. The batteries are always seeming to die on me.

Anyone know of an FM transmitter that runs off 12v?

i have a similar product which uses the cigarette lighter, and it carries over noise over the fm frequency, which makes it almost not worth it. if you need to, rechargable batteries are the way to go.

looking for info on the type of unit that is hard-wired to the antenna lead, not so much wireless in the power supply area.

If there is a CD-changer input on the head unit that that is unused, you *may* be able to get an adapter that fools the HU into seeing a changer and provides RCA inputs.
