Ok, what about just running a regular copy of XP Pro on an XBOX and being able to use it like your average PC? Anyone perfect straight-forward instructions on setting that up? That's something I'd be interested in, just to be able to stick an XBOX under my TV for some MP3 usage, DivX movie playing, etc.. Of course having it networked to me main PC would be optimal.

Re: Linux for XBOX - 28/09/2002 09:33

As I understand it, that's not really possible due to the fact that, while the XBox is very close to being a normal PC, it's just far enough away at a firmware level that Windows won't understand it.

But there's no reason that I'm aware of that you could do the things you list under Linux, and you should be able to do that today.

It can be hacked to run Windows. I was just hoping there was already an available drop-in kit so I woulnd't have to do all the modifications myself. I have zero interest in running Linux on it. Regardless of the ability to play DivX movies...

There is now what looks to be a full Mandrake 9.0 installation available for the Xbox.
