Satellite Receivers, DirectTV - 04/11/2002 04:35

Does anyone use/recommend a DirectTV HDTV sat receiver? I am thinking about buying one, but want to get some reviews first... I want digital 5.1 pass-thru audio, coax/optical doesn't matter.. and component out for video.. ideally I would like a unit that also has Tivo built in, as I don't want two separate components, but I don't think anyone makes one...

I would also be interested to note if anyone is successful running hu em with an HDTV reciever? I have an older Sony SVHS model, and it works great with hu emu

Dish Network should have an HDTV PVR out sometime in 2003. I expect the other providers to have something similar around the same timeframe. I'm expecting CES in the early part of next year to be when it's officially announced.

I can't wait for this! I've got the HD-ready projection set and the HD-ready oval dish, but I'm never home at prime time to watch any old show, thus I'm sticking with my (1st gen) DirecTV TiVo box. Give me an HD-DirecTV-PVR (TiVo, ReplayTV, whatever) box for under $1000, and I'll buy it in a snap. If it's $2000, I'll have to think about it.

Me too. I would be all over an HD-TiVo. I got a bonus from work a couple of years ago and used it to buy my first HD tuner and TiVo. If you've seen my *ahem* TiVo enthusiasm in other threads you can guess which one gets more use. I've barely touched the HD receiver in the past year while the TiVo gets daily use. As much as I love the quality of HD, it is outweighed by the inconvenience of adhering to the networks' schedule and watching commercials.
